Asia Argento, born in Rome to a family which includes actors and directors, pursued both professions. Sogni e bisogni, directed by Sergio Citti and starring Asia Argento when she was nine, was her very first film. The role she played was the main one in Cristina Comencini's Zoo (1988) as well as a part of Michele Savi's 1989 film The Church. In 1989, she portrayed Nanni Moretti's baby in Red Wood Pigeon. (Also directed by Moretti). The film Close Friends (1992), written and directed by Michele Placido, that Asia's career took off. she had the opportunity to transition from portraying very young girls, to more complex, mature role. This movie received a positive review at the Cannes International Film Festival. She's made three films with her dad, Trauma, The Stendhal syndrome and Phantom of the Opera. The Phantom of the Opera was her third movie alongside her dad, the other two being Trauma, and The Stendhal Syndrome. Her deeply absorbed and intense style of acting is well-known in Giuseppe Piccioni's Condannato a nozze. Patrice Chereau directed Queen Margot in which she played a crucial part. In 1995, she acted alongside Michel Piccoli in Peter Del Monte's Traveling Companion , which again brought her a David diDonatello as well as an award called a Grolla of Oro. Asia started directing in the year 1994, and produced two shorts: Prospettive (1996), an account of her father's life and her mother, as well as Abel/Asia (1998) which was a documentary about the cult filmmaker Abel Ferrara. The latter won an award from the Rome Film Festival. The year 1999 was the year that Asia began her film-directing career with Scarlet Diva (2000), in which she was the leading actress and author of the screenplay. It was released on May 20, 2000, in Italy and around the globe. It was awarded a special award by the Williamsburg Festival of Film in Brooklyn. Anna Lou was born in 2001, after having directed several music videos. She appeared in 2002 featured in The Red Siren directed by Olivier Megaton and starred alongside Jean-Marc Barr. Rob Cohen also directed the action film featuring Vin Diesel. Asia is the creator of a number of short stories which were published in various magazines.
